Episode 2: Two Minutes with the Truth – Joel B Groat
How do we know if a teacher, a pastor or a spiritual leader is teaching the truth? This is so important because as Jesus taught in John 8:32 – only the truth will set us free.
Jesus also showed us the importance of the truth in John chapter 17. Just before his death on the cross Jesus prayed for his disciples, and for all of us who would believe in the message of salvation. Here are the words of Jesus from John 17, verses 14, and 17:
“I have given them your word …. Sanctify them by the truth. Your Word is truth.”
Jesus is teaching us here that his words are the words of God and they are our source of truth. The Bible is where we find this truth recorded.
This is why it is so important we trust only the Bible as a reliable source for truth. When we study the Bible, we are able to know which voices, which teachers are truly bringing us the truth that will set us free. We will be free to live for God, free to love other people, and free to grow and mature spiritually. To know the truth, we must know the Bible, which is the Word of God.
The teachings of the Apostle Paul found in 2 Tim 3:16-17 –also show us we need to turn to the Bible if we want to be sure of finding the voice of truth. We will look closely at these verses in our next episode. Until then, let’s stay close to God and read His word every day.
