Being raised a Jehovah’s Witness, Melissa understands the difficulties of growing up in the Watchtower where abused victims are silenced by the “two witness rule” of the Watchtower which tells elders to overlook the abusive actions of the rapist if there is not a second witness to the event. When she was sexually molested as a teenager, the Jehovah’s Witness elders disfellowshipped her and blamed her for the abuse. The life of shame she experienced after that event, took a lot of courage to overcome.
