Appealing to the Mormon Conscience

It was another great year in Utah, as always, at the Mormon Miracle Pageant!  Before arriving, I was a bit concerned because this past year, the LDS Church bought part of the street where the pageant is.  I thought that it might hinder our witnessing opportunities, but it sure didn’t!  Nearly all the Christians were able to get into conversations with the Mormon people in spite of these changes.  The Mormon Church may think that they own the main street in front of their temple, but I know the Creator and Owner of all things. Sharing God’s Nature and Bible Accuracy with Mormons

Greetings to all!

What another great year at the Mormon Miracle Pageant!  It was a wonderful time to bring the truth and light of Jesus.

On the first day I was there, I stood on the sidewalk where people were passing by and I asked individuals if they could answer a quick question that I have concerning the introduction to the Book of Mormon.  The introduction to the 1981 edition of The Book of Mormon says, The Book of Mormon is a volume of Holy Scripture comparable to the Bible.  It is a record of God’s dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fullness of the everlasting gospel.”

Responding to Criticism

mark-lolyGreetings from Mark and Loly

This month, the correspondence from our website brought an unusual email from a Mormon gentleman:

“Instead of trying to bring different Christian sects to combat the evil in the world, you serve the devil by criticizing others you truly know nothing about… I believe that Jesus Christ is the only Savior of this world! I also know His mission is one of peace, loving one another, praying for your enemies, and banding together as Christians to combat the evil in the world! ALL CONFUSION AND CONTENTION IS ONLY OF THE DEVIL! Your website is filled with contention, not peace and love and filled with disaffected Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses that never truly understood their religions. May God have mercy on your contentious souls, for you know not what you do nor whom you serve!” Continue reading “Responding to Criticism”

Lee and Kathy at the Indiana Mormon Temple Opening

The primary activity this month has been our joint service with Tri-Grace Ministries who financially sponsored our trip just north of Indianapolis at the new Mormon Temple.

Ex-Bishop Lee and Kathy in front of the Indiana Temple

This Temple “Open House” has provided the fantastic opportunity to not only share the True Gospel of Jesus Christ with thousands of Mormons, but we have educated and alerted many more thousands of Christians as to the specific deceptions of the Mormon Church. (See our Mormon Worldview Exposed pamphlet) Continue reading “Lee and Kathy at the Indiana Mormon Temple Opening”

Challenging Mormons with the Real Gospel

robDoug and I attended the 49th annual Mormon Miracle Pageant at Manti Utah during the 18th thru the 27th of June. Over the past few years we have noticed a decline in LDS attendance to the pageant and this year was no exception. Unfortunately, there seemed to be fewer Christian evangelist in attendance this year as well. Although, there were still plenty of Mormons that heard the truth of the Gospel and Jesus in contrast to the deception of Mormon doctrine. Even with the attendance being very low on some nights, we still had a lot of conversations and handed out hundreds of tracts. Continue reading “Challenging Mormons with the Real Gospel”

Trevor Witnessing to Mormons in Manti

Trevor is a young man who has a real heart for Mormons. This year we were able to help him join our team with Rob and Doug witnessing at the Manti Utah Pageant.

My experience in Manti, Utah in June of 2015 was spectacular as usual! This was my third year to attend this event.   I explored the following two concepts with the people that I spoke with:   the concepts of fullness and forgiveness. Christians and Latter-day Saints (LDS) seem to view these concepts through a different lens.   Christians believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God which cannot be added to or subtracted from and that it is the fullness of truth. LDS believe that the Bible is the word of God as far as it is correctly translated, as stated in the 8th Article of Faith. They also use the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price, as scripture. Regarding forgiveness, Christians believe that all sins; past, present, and future were all forgiven the moment that Jesus said, “It is finished” on the cross; while LDS disagree.

Bishop Lee and Kathy Discussing the Wives of Joseph Smith

Former Mormon Bishop Lee and Kathy Baker in front of the Salt Lake City Temple

The Manti Outreach to the Mormon People is the largest known Christian gathering to witness to and pray for the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the world. This two-week event is held in Manti, Utah and is centered on The Mormon Miracle Pageant sponsored by the Mormon Church each June.

Interview with Lee Baker on the Streets of Utah

As a direct result of your generous support this past year, Kathy and I were able to spend just over two-weeks witnessing to the Mormons and providing Training to over 400 Christians who traveled to Manti from New England, Florida, California and even central England to participate in this outpouring of Love and Compassion to the lost souls of the Mormon Faith.

Training and Radio Broadcasting from Ephraim Church of the Bible

On this trip we were able to teach a class on how to witness to Mormons at Calvary Chapel SLC for a group of youth that came to visit Russ East of KUTR radio. We were able to witness at the Manti Pageant for 8 nights. We taught a class on how to witness to Mormons at Wasatch Cowboy Church (Pastor Larry McGruder) a small church that is made up of 70% of Ex-Mormons, and we taught a class on how to witness to Mormons at Ephraim Church of the Bible for Tri-Grace Ministries.

Mormons Don’t Know the 2nd Part of John 14:6: “No one comes to the Father but by Me.”

robOn October 4th and 5th, Doug and I attended the 184th LDS Semiannual General Conference in Salt Lake City Utah. The weather was very pleasant, around 70 degrees, making it more suitable for conversations and more comfortable for standing outside the Temple grounds each day.

Doug sign, “Is the Mormon Jesus the Same Jesus of the Bible?” usually draws in a number of LDS with their argument that the Mormon Jesus is the same Jesus as in the Bible.  But when they say that, it opens the door for us to share the real Jesus and why eternal life can only be obtained through belief in the Biblical Jesus (John 17:3). How to use the Book of Mormon to Prove the Trinity

Doug and Rob in Manti, UT

Doug and I have been attending the Mormon Miracle Pageant in Manti Utah for a number of years so it is like old home week seeing many of the Christians that have been coming year after year. Besides great fellowship, there is daily worship and witness training at the Ephraim Church of the Bible in the mornings and of course, witnessing to the LDS at the Pageant each night.

This year as part of the morning witness training, Tri-Grace Ministries presented a panel of pageant veterans to share their favorite witnessing technique and asked me to be part of that panel. Continue reading “How to use the Book of Mormon to Prove the Trinity”

Equipping Our Meetup Members

Part of my role as hostess on our Colorado Springs and Worldwide Internet Ex-Mormon Meetup is to remind members of the wealth of information available to them at our website

Ex-Mormon Meetup

Taking into consideration that we actually have more activity from members interested in witnessing to Mormons than from ex-Mormons themselves, I try to find articles of interest to meet the needs of our most active members. In April, I posted a question from a letter titled “I’M FRUSTRATED! HOW CAN I GET THROUGH TO MORMONS?” which can be found on our website under the heading “FAQ about reaching loved ones.” I copied and pasted the whole letter into the post and invited our Meetup members to respond with this: Okay Meetup members, how would you respond? What could you share with the writer who is looking for a way to talk to their Mormon friend? What would you do?

One member responded with “I think this question is THE defining question when dealing with them. The problems outlined here are verbatim the same problems everyone with a heart for Mormons encounters. I’ll be following this thread closely…….” Continue reading “Equipping Our Meetup Members”

Discussing Atheism with Mormons

Witnessing at LDS General Conference
Witnessing at LDS General Conference

Rob’s Mission Trip to Utah – Witnessing to Mormons During the Spring LDS General Conference

robYes, it was LDS Spring Conference time on April 5th and 6th, and along with Spring Conference came April showers. Fortunately, it was only April sprinkles with mild weather, which didn’t keep the LDS from stopping and talking. Doug, Jeff and I gathered at the corner of South Temple Square and the Plaza Strip so that we could reach out to the LDS that exit the Conference on South Temple. Most of the Christians gather at North Temple and in front of the Conference Center where they can reach out to the majority of the LDS that come to Conference.

Doug and I have been standing at the corner of South Temple and Plaza Strip during Spring and Fall conference for the past 9 years so it is not unusual for people that we have spoken to in the past to stop and talk again. A couple of years ago, I witnessed to two LDS guys, one of them being a LDS photographer/reporter. I spoke about the blasphemy of embracing the idea that God was once a man like us and that we can gain exaltation, becoming Gods ourselves. Every conference since then, this same LDS reporter has stopped to briefly talk and take whatever tracts I happen to be handing out each time. Doug got to talk briefly with an LDS guy from our home town of Winnemucca. He is a physical therapist who Doug had visited for a work injury several years ago. It is amazing to see how God is at work spreading His gospel with these “divine appointments”. Continue reading “Discussing Atheism with Mormons”

A Question for LDS Missionaries

We handed out about 350 business size tracts and a few DVDs October 5th and 6th was the 183rd Semiannual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The opening comments by the LDS leadership stated that the Church membership was growing, not declining but I have been coming to the Semiannual General Conferences for the past 8 years I have noticed a decline in attendance at these General Conferences. The Salt Lake Deseret News posted an article sometime back admitting a decline in the overall membership of the LDS Church. So who says that we are wasting our time evangelizing the LDS people! Our God is way bigger than doctrines of deception and the craftiness of men! Continue reading “A Question for LDS Missionaries”

Melissa – Ministry Partner

bullets View Melissa’s Ephesians 2 Ministry Video Corner

Growing up, the ‘God’ that I was taught about was the ‘New Age’ view of God. We went to church when I was a kid, but not regularly. My Mom was very much a ‘free thinker’ and extremely unbiased when it came to others beliefs. Because of that, I learned to be very open-minded and tolerant of other people’s beliefs, no matter what they were. We were taught to find the ‘common ground’ in what we all believed. In a sense, it was a type of ‘salad bar’ belief system- just take what you want from each religion or belief, and go with it.

My great Grandparents were Christian Scientists, so my family embraced a lot of their teachings. We believed in the teachings of Jerry and Esther Hicks, Oprah, Eckhart Tolle, Emmet Fox, Rhonda Byrne, James Redfield and many many more New Age/New Thought teachers.

Jesus was very much looked like as the other great teachers of history. He was ‘God in the flesh’ only in the sense that He became ‘awakened’ and tapped into His Godhood — something we all can do. In short — it’s the serpent’s lie. You can be your own ‘God’ in this type of New Age belief system.

Ironically, I never knew there was a word for these beliefs until after I left them. I never knew we had ‘New Age’ beliefs. It was always a ‘higher consciousness’ or ‘spiritually awakened’ instead of ‘New Age’. The trickiest part is that it’s an extremely loving, giving, harmonious, peaceful, attractive and blissful belief system. It was the perfect deception. Continue reading “Melissa – Ministry Partner”

Storming the Gates of Hell at Temple Square

Yesterday was our Temple Square Field Trip. I have to say that I do feel empathy for the LDS Temple Security guards because we arrived with about 50 missionaries and as we pulled into the parking lot the mission team from Ankeny, Iowa, was also unloading (I am guessing with about 30 or so more missionaries). LDS Temple Security’s job is to NOT allow Christians to witness to their people and 80 well trained Christian missionaries invaded their turf. This reminds me of our Lord’s promise found in Matthew chapter 16, Jesus said, “I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Try as they might to hold the fort, yesterday, we stormed the gates and there was nothing they could do to hold us back. The Four (LDS Missionary) Sisters And The Big Bad (LDS) Security Guard

chip-tshirt-backOn Monday we took the Manti Mission Teams to the Salt Lake City Temple so they could experience the deception of Mormonism first hand. We sent about 40 Christian missionaries into the various venues surrounding Temple Square while the TGM Staff, went to the North Gate of Temple Square to witness on the public sidewalks. We of course talk with anyone who wants to talk but primarily we pass out the Jesus Christ / Joseph Smith DVDs. These DVDs are wonderful seeds that compare the teachings of Jesus and Joseph Smith and we were able to pass out over 100 DVDs to Temple Square visitors. The Body Of Christ At Work Is A Beautiful Thing

chip-tshirt-backWell, it is Friday morning already and this is the first chance I have had to send an update about the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday outreach nights. So what is my problem??? I wouldn’t exactly call it a problem — more Christian Missionaries than we know what to do with is just the kind of “problem” we LOVE!!! Yes folks this week is HUGE! We have the largest group of missionaries ever – we estimate that there are over 200 Christians on the streets this week. AND… YES, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL THING.
